Films Showing
Mazungu: Canoeing the Congo 15'
Directed and Produced by Phil Harwood
Ex Marine Phil Harwood’s graphic account of his hair raising adventures, during his 5 month solo, first 'source to the sea' descent of the 2922 mile long Congo River through the war torn D.R. Congo. Starting from the true source in north eastern Zambia, he faced swamps, waterfalls, rapids and endemic corruption. Arrested, chased, collapsing from malaria with numerous death threats, he also encountered tremendous hospitality. 'I only had to get m machete out twice to prevent myself from being robbed'
Mammalian 47'
Directed and Produced by Frank Wolf
A 2,000 km arctic canoe journey from Yellowknife to Rankin Inlet provides the setting for this intimate, sideways look at the largest wilderness area in North America. Home to some of the greatest populations of large mammals on earth, pressures from industry and climate change make the future of this sanctuary uncertain. From the deepest heart of the barren lands, the filmmakers have emerged with a compelling portrait of the landscape and a new discovery that will shock the natural world.
Kayak Extreme 9'
Directed and Produced by Kajo Fritz
Together with a group of bold adventurers, the luminary Olaf Obsommer and Thilo Schmitt undertake a kayak expedition to the Altai mountains. This proves to be an extraordinary challenge for the humans and for the material. They want to fulfil their great desire, to become registered in the “book of legends”, after having achieved 110 km of river water with 96 rapids. This honour has rarely been given to any kayakers in the world so far.
Kayak Europa 10'
Directed and Produced by Daniel Fylan-Smith
Into the Outside paddling crew's adventures in Europe. Filmed on location in Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and France. Directed by Daniel J Fylan- Smith, the film follows the crew's first trip kayaking in Europe.
Crossing The Ditch 55'
Directed by Greg Quail
The Tasman Sea runs for more than 2000km between Australia and New Zealand: it is one of the world’s most dangerous stretches of water. Two young Australians, James Castrissian and Justin Jones, decide to cross it in a kayak, a feat that has never been attempted before. Ten metre plus waves, terrifying storms, strong currents and ravenous sharks put the minds and bodies of those two young men to the test. After 62 days, they reach the sandy coast of NZ to earn a place in history.
Peace,
Dan
